The former Heartbeat actress told Closer magazine that she is "learning to love my curves" as she stripped off for a photoshoot
"When she was diagnosed in July 2010, I vowed never to diet again. It made me realise that life's too short to be constantly calorie counting."
The mother-of-two, who now weighs 10st 5lbs, continued: "I've been every size from an 8 to a 16 when I was pregnant, but I no longer care if I'm a bit bigger. I'm learning to love my curves. They're sexy! I get more compliments now than I did when I was skinny."
Penrose, who released a fitness DVD in 2007, said that she is relieved "not to worry if I've put on a pound", adding: "You can't live a full life that way."
